“Coming Soon” boasts a notable and diverse cast apart from Gray, Farrow and O’Neal, thesp-helmer Peter Bogdanovich and indie regular Kevin Corrigan turn up in small parts. Meanwhile, Stream also must contend with her eccentric New Age mother (Mia Farrow) and her egocentric divorced father (Ryan O’Neal). In this pursuit, they are assisted by a sardonic high school adviser (Spalding Gray), who has perfected a college admissions strategy. If their sexual woes weren’t enough, the girls must also jockey for positions at preferred universities.

Still, the implication is clear: Henry is a guy who knows how to satisfy a woman. Though she finds Henry intriguing, Stream resists his overtures. In contrast to Chad stands the sensitive, quirky outsider Henry Lipschitz (Ryan Reynolds), ne Rockefeller an anti-elitist, he changed his name to forge his own path in the world. Stream, meanwhile, has bedded the popular, arrogant Chad (James Roday), who is predictably more interested in his own pleasure than hers. Well-to-do Jenny has a string of overheated but essentially empty encounters, and Nell has offers from various interested boys but finds all of them lacking. With Stream’s quest for an orgasm framing the narrative, we watch each of the girls pursue her own sexual adventures. When Nell and Jenny discover that Stream has never had an orgasm, they make it their mission to find her a man and make sure she achieves sexual satisfaction, hence the title’s not-terribly-inventive double entendre. Sort of a junior, much less literate version of the HBO series “Sex and the City,” pic takes up the plight of Nell (Tricia Vessey), Jenny (Gaby Hoffman) and Stream (Bonnie Root), private-school socialites facing the dual perils of college admissions and sexual intimacy.
